Lucas Pezzini Leiva (born 9 January 1987) is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liverpool and the Brazil national football team. He is often known solely by his first name, Lucas. Lucas also holds an Italian passport thanks to his descent from the country.
Lucas Leiva, nephew of Brazilian football legend Leivinha, arrived from Gremio in the summer of 2007 following an impressive spell at the club he joined as a youth. Lucas went to the 2008 olympics with Brazil and won a bronze medal, Lucas racked up a further 39 apperances in the 2008/09 season scoring one goal in a 3-0 win agianst Newcastle and also playing an important role in the 4-1 win agianst Manchester United and the 5-1 win agianst Newcastle.
Xabi Alonso's depature to Real Madrid meant Lucas became a regular starter in the 2009/2010 season and won over many of his cricits at Anfield although many remian unconvinced, though Lucas was our young player of the season in 2009/10 and continues to progress.
