Gerrard may not be able to start of new season with injury

Steven Gerrard has revealed he is still fighting to be fit for the start of this season.
But he has insisted when he does return, he'll be back stronger and better than ever before, after finally triumphing over his perennial injury jinx.
Gerrard hasn't played since an appearance against Manchester United way back in early March, because of the groin problem that has troubled him throughout his career.
The problem eventually required surgery - and the longest lay-off Gerrard has ever faced in his career.

Alan Kennedy

believes the Reds will challenge for the title next season – and points to the way Kenny Dalglish ended his own Liverpool career in 1985 as proof the Scot has a knack of getting things right.

It is more than 26 years since newly installed player-manager Dalglish sold Kennedy - who had scored the winner in two European Cup finals - to Sunderland and replaced him with a younger Jim Beglin.
The decision may not have gone down well at the time - but in hindsight Kennedy believes it was the correct move.
"He knows exactly what he's doing," the former left-back told Liverpoolfc.tv. "As a rookie manager in 1985 he made decisions about the team and aging full-backs like me and Phil Neal.
"We were thinking, 'Is he making the right decision?' Then they won the double. He brought in Steve Nicol and Jim Beglin, and Barry Venison came to the club as well.
"He generally gets things right, and he's got some good people with him, like Steve Clarke, Sammy Lee and Damien Comolli."
Kennedy is now back at Anfield entertaining fans in the Carlsberg Lounge on matchdays, so is well placed to assess our form over the last few seasons.
The 56-year-old believes Dalglish is getting the best out of the resources at his disposal.

The picture circulated on Twitter on Tuesday morning and appeared to show the Villa winger holding the Reds scarf with Liverpool striker Andy Carroll and a fan.
It comes as Downing has been linked with a move to the Anfield club.
This afternoon an Aston Villa spokesman said Downing had assured the club the picture was a fake.
He said: "The picture is a fake. I've spoken to Stewie and he has assured me of that."

Liverpool plan to go for a new goalkeeper

Liverpool wants to snatch Bolton goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi, after Wigan failed to meet clubs valuation of the player.

The Omani international was at Wigan on a season-long loan deal and Wigan wants to sign Habsi on permanent basis.He also won the club's player of the year award.

The Latics have made a third bid of 3.7million bid for Al-Habsi but Coyle is holding out for his valuation of 4m and Liverpool are set to take advantage of Wigans dawdling tactics by matching Bolton's estimation of the player.

Kenny Dalglish wants an experienced goalkeeper to provide cover for current No.1 Pepe Reina.

Al-Habsi has been identified as the ideal candidate and Dalglish is hoping to up a swift deal for the 'keeper within the next week.
